Introduction/ Team Builder

10-Second Shapes

10 Second Shapes - at first solo, then in small groups, actors will make different shapes using just their bodies. When in a group, they need to work together as a team to make shapes like a tree, a turtle, a boat, etc. Imaginary points will be awarded but everyone wins!

To establish expected and unexpected behaviors for the class, to encourage pragmatic skills, and to begin peer interaction

Warm Ups

Body, Face & Voice

Body: Stretch up to the ceiling like a cat, unscrew the lightbulb/pet the dog, marionette, crayons. Voice: Face massage, big face, little face, a thousand funny faces, Addams Family, lip trills, vocal waterfall, tongue twisters

To ready the body and voice for the following exercises

Improvisation Game

Remote Control

Remote Control: The stage is a giant TV and two actors are on every single channel. The instructor has an imaginary remote control and they will say what channel they want to watch (the news, a soap opera, a reality show, the food network). The actors have no time to plan - they just improvise a scene that might take place on that channel. The person holding the remote can also change the volume, mute, or rewind/fast forward.

To promote listening skills, flexibility, taking cues and quick thinking.

Cool Down

Teachers lead a cool-down involving breathing exercises and calming movements
