Director update

New rehearsal site and time

We are going to try rehearsing at the new site tonight. Please note the 4:45 PM start time to accommodate travel. The building is a large warehouse with no sign, so we will clearly mark the correct door for everyone to enter.

Rehearsal plan

What we’re doing today

1

We’ll combine capture the flag, red light–green light and improv. The cast will sneak toward Grandma’s cookies, invent a new excuse whenever she wakes up, then pass the cookies back without Grandma guessing who has them.

Goal
Establish class expectations, encourage pragmatic skills and begin peer interaction.
Skills
Initiating conversations, conflict resolution and personal space/boundaries.
Materials
Whiteboard and marker.
2
Warm-Ups

Body, Face & Voice

We’ll stretch like cats, unscrew the lightbulb, pet the dog, move like marionettes, massage our faces and play with big, little and funny faces before the Addams Family voice warm-up.

Goal
Ready the body and voice for the activities that follow.
Skills
Body language, facial expressions and tone of voice.
Materials

Grandma Is Baking a Cake

Five actors will learn a one-minute play. The other actors become directors and change the location, style or emotional tone; the scene is performed immediately, repeated with new directions and then recast.

Promote listening, flexibility, taking cues and quick thinking.
Skills
Body language, tone of voice, facial expressions, theory of mind and flexibility.
Materials

4

Generic Scenes

Using a one-page, two-person script, partners will choose part A or B, then decide on a location, character relationship and object before rehearsing and sharing their scene.

Goal
Encourage quick reactions, listening to verbal and nonverbal cues, and safe use of the body.
Skills
Peer interaction, problem solving, body language, tone of voice, gestures and facial expressions.
Materials
